Hello: Samuel Cooey/Coey is said to have arrived in Ontario, Canada, 1833-34. He is said to have come from Carrickfergus, Co Antrim. Some of his descendants lived in the US; some were named John. So far as I know, none of his descendants had any connection to the South: Florida, Georgia, Alabama, etc. If you can provide me more info on your Cooeys, perhaps we can establish if there's a connection.
